Fishing kayaks are becoming more and more popular amongst the angler industry as gone are of the days of standing by the waterside of a lake or river. Anglers are looking for ways to pursue their hobby further and change up the old patterns. Overview of the Old Town Vapor 10 Angler Kayak

A comfortable kayak which offers not only great performance but also versatility in its uses. The Old Town Vapor 10 Angler Kayak offers users with stability and safety due to its wide hull and length of kayak. The Vapor 10 is a reasonably lightweight boat for a 10ft kayak as its total weight is just that of 47lbs.

Old Town similar to other solid brands had chosen to go with the durable material of polyethylene for the hull of the kayak. The boat itself offers a very big sit-in cockpit which is both spacious and comfortable when compared to other 10ft kayaks. The tracking of the Vapor 10 is second to none its stability in the water as previously mentioned is exceptional.

Some of the kayaks main features include that of an adjustable seat and foot braces, flush rod holders to the hull and superb amount of storage options. These features will be discussed in more detail below.

Old Town Vapor 10 Angler Kayak Features

Storage Compartments

As with any fishing kayak, plenty of storage is essential and as such the Old Town Vapor 10 does not disappoint. At the back of the kayak is a dry hatch which can be utilized with a lockable top to ensure that everything inside stays waterproof. There is space behind the seat which could be used for extra gear which is not necessary to be used while out on the water such things a sleeping bags, tent parts, etc.

Also with the cockpit being so expansive, there is plenty of space to store goods between your legs while paddling I would suggest this would be essential gear as the Vapor 10 does lack that of storage at the front of the kayak which is disappointing in a sense. However, the amount provided in the cockpit is adequate enough for an all-day trip on the water

Comfort

The Old Town Vapor 10 Kayak is more of the more comfortable sit-in kayaks we have reviewed. The foam utilized in the material of the seat provides enough cushion for the kayak to feel comfortable to sit in for extended periods of time. The seat also has the function of being adjustable in order to provide the user with better posture to decrease tension on the lower back while paddling. This helps to increase the endurance of the paddler as stamina and performance can be increased as such.

Maneuverability and Tracking

The Vapor 10 tracks impressively well for the size of the kayak it is. Through moving rivers and flat lakes the kayak performs very well as a minimal amount of speed is needed in order to get the kayak moving.

Old Town seemed to have designed this boat very well as it does keep a natural line in the water and very little adjustments are needed in order to keep the kayak on course. Providing the kayak is not moving at any great speed it will be able to turn with ease. This is surprising to most as considering the length as well as the width of the kayak at 10ft and 28.5in the maneuverability is fantastic.

However, if the speed of the boat is increased it can get difficult to control and this is obviously extended when in rougher waters. Though it does handle itself well when taking all scenarios into account.

Stability

Old Town has designed the Vapor 10 with stability in mind. The width of the hull is one of the largest we have seen on test and as such provides the user with a secure base to fish from. The large cockpit design helps in this respect also as there is plenty of room to move about to the point where standing could be an option if you wish to provide it.

The kayak is so robust it does handle choppy water well due to its bull design but the downside with having such high sides is that waves could break over the top of the cockpit and into the hull of the kayak. But all in the construction and design of the Old Town Vapor 10 Angler Kayak is one of the best we have seen. It would be silly not to recommend this kayak to those who both enjoy angling alongside recreational use.
